Abstract:

Aluminum alloy 3003 is subjected to isothermal compression at a temperature of 300 - 500A degrees C and deformation rates of 0.01 - 10.0 sec(-1) in a Gleeble-1500 device imitating hot compressive deformation. The effects of the temperature and of the deformation rate are determined in terms of the Zener - Hollomon parameter involving the Arrhenius activation factor. The influence of the deformation is expressed in terms of a constitutive equation allowing for the effect of strain on different constants of the material. The method of strain compensation is used to derive a modified model describing the relation between the flow stress, the strain rate and the temperature for the alloy at high temperatures. The stress - strain curves predicted by the model agree well with experimental data.
