Abstract:

A scalable scheme is presented for generating W-type entangled states for many atoms. The scheme only requires a single resonant interaction of the atoms with a cavity mode. The time required to complete the process does not increase with the number of atoms. The scheme can also be used to generate the W states for multiple trapped ions with a single interaction.
