Abstract:
Two novel monooxovanadium(V) complexes [VOL1(bz)] (1) (H2L1 =N-salicylideneglycine, Hbz=benzohydroxamic acid) and [VOL2(bz)](.)(CH3OH) (2) (H2L2 =N-(2-carboxyphenyl) salicylidenamine), were prepared and characterized by IR, Raman, UV, H-1 NMR spectra, cyclic voltammetry measurements and X-ray diffraction. The vanadium atoms in the two title complexes have a distorted octahedral geometry with VO(ONO)(OO) type coordination. The equatorial plane is defined by the O, N, O atoms of the tridentate ligand and the oxime oxygen atom of the benzohydroxamate ligand. The oxo group is trans to the carbonyl oxygen atom of the hydroxamate ligand, but not to the oxime oxygen atom of the same ligand. The two title complexes represent the first structural characterization of a vanadium hydroxamate complex with VO(ONO)(OO) coordination. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights reserved.
