Abstract:
This paper investigates the mechanical characteristics of the jointless bridge, which is a new type of integral abutment bridge with an arch structure behind the abutment. Load tests were conducted on the three half-bridge plexiglass models with the pile constraints placed at 200 mm, 300 mm and 400 mm away from the bottom of abutment. The results showed that there is a reasonable distribution of force between the bridge girder and an arch structure. This study may promote the new application of jointless bridges which requires no joint between the bridge slab and the road.
