Abstract:
The effects of nitrogen annealing on the microstructure and magnetic properties of melt-spun Nd-Fe-Co-Zr-B alloy have been studied. It is shown that the ribbons annealed in purified argon atmosphere are composed of Nd2Fe14B and alpha-Fe phases, the microstructure of ribbons is homogeneous and fine-grained. The nitrogen-annealed ribbons are composed of Nd2Fe14B, NdBN2 and alpha-Fe phases, the microstructure of ribbons is relatively heterogeneous and coarse-grained. The increase of nitrogen content in the annealing atmosphere can increase the volume fractions of NdBN2 and alpha-Fe phases in the ribbons. The remanence, intrinsic coercivity and the maximum energy product of ribbons are decreased with increasing the nitrogen content in the annealing atmosphere.
