Abstract:
A proposed asymmetrical deck-type concrete-filled steel tube (CFST) arch bridge with a span of 380 m was analyzed for its global stability in both the construction and service stages by using Midas/Civil 7.0. In order to evaluate the influence of the general arrangement of the proposed bridge on its stability, the buckling modes and factors of the proposed bridge and another two bridges were compared. The two bridges are the same as the proposed bridge except that they are symmetrically arranged and have the spans of 404m and 358m, respectively. The results of the global stability analysis demonstrate that the bridge has adequate safety against collapse not only in the construction stage but also in the service stage. However, the asymmetrical arrangement of the proposed bridge reduces its stability. The load carrying capacity is lower than that of symmetrically arranged bridges even with a longer span length of 404m.
