Abstract:
Concrete-filled thin-walled steel tubular columns have gained popularity in these days. However, local buckling is more likely to occur for this kind of columns. Some researchers have proposed that longitudinal stiffeners can be used to postpone local bucking of such kind of tubes. This is once again proved by new test results pertaining to stiffened concrete-filled thin-walled hollow structural stub columns, which were carried out recently in Fuzhou University. In this paper, existing design codes were used to predict load-carrying capacities of adequately stiffened composite stub columns. Reasonable results were achieved compared with test results.
