Abstract:
Based on the study of mineralogical characteristics of granitic pegmatite in Lushi, Henan Province, a novel technology for recovery of elbaite and mica was developed with gravity and direct or reverse-flotation separation. The morphology and the mineral composition of the raw ore and the concentrate were investigated by optical microscopy (OM), XRD, SEM and EDS, and chemical composition of the raw ore, concentrate and tailings were analyzed. The results show that the major minerals of granitie pegmatite are elbaite, quartz, albite, muscovite and lepidolite. The elbaite concentrate with tourmaline grade of 98.31% and tourmaline recovery of 82.19% and mica concentrate with mica grade of 98.94% and mica recovery of 93.95% can be obtained by gravity and flotation when the particle grinding size of mineral less than 74 μm and content of 40%. The chemical formula for elbaite is Na (Li, Al2) Al6 (BO3)3Si6O18 (OH)x (x=4 or 5) with crystallization of 95.94%.
