Abstract:
The strata overlying the Paleozoic strata in the Bainaimiao area are approved as the Halahuogete and Baiyinbaolage Formations of the Meso-Neoproterozoic Baiyun Obo Group by stratigraphic correlation. Based on detailed field observation and structural section measurment, the Baiyun Obo Group is suggested to be a thrust nappes formed by thrust slippage from the northern margin of North China craton in the south to the Bainaimiao arc chain in the north, known as the Bainaimiao thrust tectonics. The contact correlation and formation age of the thrust fault, upper plate (i.e. thrust nappe and klippes) and lower plate (i.e. Paleozoic strata and pluton) suggest the thrust nappe sliding to NNW for 7-15 km during Late Permian to Early Trias as an epicontinental response of continent to continent collision after the closure of the paleo-Asian ocean. And the discovery and research of the thrust nappe are significant to the research of the evolution of the continent-to-continent collision in Bainaimiao area.
