Abstract:
The wear behavior of plasma sprayed Al2O3-13wt.% TiO2 coating against WC hard alloy has been investigated within a load range of 10 to 100 N and a sliding speed range of 0.1 to 0.5 m/s under dry sliding. Through careful analysis of the worn surface of the coating, the wear mechanisms transition map of this coating has been established. As the result, the main wear mechanism of the coating is plastic deformation and microploug at low normal load and low sliding speed, that is, within the wear rate range of 0.1 to 1.0 mg/m of the coating. At intermediate normal load and intermediate sliding speed, that is, within the wear rate range of 1.0 to 3.0 mg/m of the coating, the main wear mechanism of the coating is microfracture and grain spalling. At high normal load and high sliding speed, that is, the wear rate of the coating is greater than 3.0 mg/m, the main wear mechanism of the coating is fracture and delamination.
