Abstract:

To avoid the re-close for permanent fault of EHV transmission line with shunt reactor and neutral reactor, the grounding switch S between neutral reactor and ground should be closed before single-phase re-close, as the voltage of broken line can be used to determine the fault type and insulation level. The percentage of neutral reactor windings shorted directly or by damping resistor is set for the control of the vibrating voltage of broken line to avoid over-voltage. Simulations with ATP-EMTP show that, for non-permanent fault, if the closing time deference between the Ss at two sides is less than 30 ms or the closing time of the later S is near the lowest point of vibrating voltage magnitude, the vibrating voltage of broken line can reach the rated level and the re-close succeeds; if the voltage of broken line keeps low, it is a permanent fault.
