Abstract:
In order to enlarge the application range of base isolation technology, a new three-dimensional base isolation and overturn resistance device (3D-BIORD) was developed and relevant experimental studies were carried out. Design process of the device is introduced. Based on the pseudo-static tests, horizontal and vertical mechanical properties of the device were studied. The 3D-BIORDs were installed on the bottom of a high-rise steel structural model, and then shaking table tests for comparison between the uncontrolled structure and the controlled structure were performed. Ground motions of different site types and acceleration amplitudes were input from the shaking table to the upper structural model. Dynamic characteristics, acceleration and displacement responses and base shear reactions of the model were measured. The experimental and analytical results show that 3D-BIORDs are of good stability and strong reliability, the structure is still safe under rare earthquake action of intensity 8 degree. The device has favorable control effects for the dynamic responses of the structure under the action of the four ground motions of different site types, and the acceleration amplitude has little influence on the control effect.
