Abstract:
It was shown that geosynthetic reinforced pile supported (GRPS) embankments, which were constructed on soft soil, could improve the bearing capacity of ground, reduce differential settlements, enhance the pile efficiency, and diminish construction cost. But the theory of design method for GRPS embankments was not reliable. The bearing capacity of the soft soil was ignored in the existing methods, and it was not consonant with actual instances. Based on the idea of three-dimensional space, an improved solution of Hewlett's method for soil arching effect in piled embankments was obtained, then the function of geosynthetic layer and bearing capacity of the soft soil were considered to deduce the formula of pile-soil stress ratio, which was applied to practical design to introduce an integrated method.
