Abstract:

Based on the empirical e-lg p and e-lg kv relations, the basic governing equation of one-dimensional nonlinear consolidation was derived, taking into account nonlinear consolidation with variable compressibility and permeability, under time dependent loading and the self weight of the soil. Five computational parameters on one-dimensional nonlinear consolidation were summarized from the equation. This paper presented the hardware configuration and software function of the GDS advanced consolidation testing system (GDS ADVCTS), and emphasized the advantage of determination of nonlinear consolidation parameters compared with the traditional testing equipment and method. GDS system was used to investigate the consolidation behavior of Xiaoshan Clay, and testing results of one-dimensional nonlinear consolidation computational parameters were listed in details. The nonlinear behavior of compressibility and permeability during the consolidation of soft soil was verified.
