Abstract:
A spherical lignin-based ion exchange resin was prepared with calciumlignosulfonate as raw material in a cheap and non-toxic disperse phase by reversed phase suspension polymerization technique. The effect of disperse phase, dispersing agent and cross-linking agent dosage, polymerization temperature and mixing speed on the suspension polymerization and sphericization were studied. The fundamental performances of the resin including appearance, particle size, moisture content, density, and exchange capacity were characterized. At the optimal conditions, the ion exchange capacity of 3.83 mmol/L was reached.
