Abstract：
The micro-processes on tensile deformation and fracture of graphite-matrix interface in cast iron with ferrite matrix under SEM were observed in situ. According to observation, it was found out that the graphite in cast iron can not be regarded as a cavity, and does not form notch stress concentration yet. A new explanation for the effect of graphite on the strength of cast iron was suggested.
