Abstract:
Twenty-four concrete filled steel tubular (CFST) battened column specimens were tested. Parameters of column slenderness, load eccentricity, chord spacing and batten spacing were investigated in the experimental research. The whole load-bearing process, the failure modes and ultimate load-carrying capacities of the specimens were analyzed. Nonlinear finite element models were established on the environment of software ANSYS to simulate the whole behaviors of the specimens during the test process. Using the conformed FEM, extensive parametric study was conduced and ultimate load-carrying capacity of the specimens calculated by FEM and estimated by China specifications of CFST structures were compared to the tested results. Finally, some suggestions were presented for simplified calculation of the ultimate load carrying capacity of CFST battened columns.
