Abstract:
In IS-95 CDMA system, traffic data frames on uplink and downlink are fed to convolutional encoders and Viterbi algorithm (VA) decoding method. And there are two rate sets in IS-95 protocol, rate set 1 (RS1) and rate set 2 (RS2), in each set different transmission rate has different frame length. In order to adjust the frame length to the same, a symbol repetition is used, but it just repeats the symbol simply. In the scheme proposed in this paper, the symbol repetition is removed and a symbol generator is used to produces some known symbols instead, which can be regarded as useful contraint conditions for constrained Viterbi algorithm (C-VA) in the receiver. Study indicates that the decoding performance can be greatly improved by using C-VA compared with VA in the same channel conditions.
