Abstract:
This paper is aimed at the basic characteristics, causes and improvement measures of road traffic accidents involving students in Beijing. To achieve this goal, this paper analyzed a large amount of traffic accident data in Beijing and focuses on 430 crashes involving 488 students as samples. Statistical analysis of these samples tells us the basic knowledge of crashes involving students' accidents are distribution by time, location, transportation mode, and the parties' responsibility. Next, we discuss and analyze the reasons for digital phenomenon. This study found that the difference between modes of transport is significant by gender and non-resident students involved in traffic accidents and are significantly more than local accidents. Finally, some conclusions from this study and some measures to improve student traffic safety are advised: adding auxiliary observation devices, focusing on traffic safety improvement of non-resident students, qualified and cheaper helmets being provided to students as bicyclists, and planning and constructing more sufficient parks and play spaces for children. © 2018 American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).
