Abstract:
The effects of solution hardening of austenite in Fe-Mn-Si alloys by the additions of Cr, Ni and C on the recovery stress, recoverable strain and the stability of shape memory are investigated. It is established that solution hardening increased not only the recoverable strain but also the recovery stress and the stability of shape memory ability. Solution hardening of austenite, especially by the addition of carbon, is an effective approach to improve the shape memory properties provided the Ms temperature is maintained near room temperature.
