Abstract:

This paper presents a study of the failure mechanism and control measures for a seismically induced landslide along the Wanzhou-Liangping expressway in China. It is shown that the dominant cause of the slope stability problem is the original inappropriate geometry of the slope. Slope stability analyses were performed using Spencer's method incorporated with the pseudostatic method, which showed that the rock slope was unstable after the Wenchuan earthquake, and the stability of the studied area was governed mainly by the significant potential of deep sliding. Measures to stabilize unstable zones include resloping and unloading the slope, installing rock anchors and a retaining wall, improving drainage, and vegetating bare areas. The results indicate that the measures were effective in controlling the landslide. © 2015, Springer Science+Business Media New York.
