Abstract:

Bulky anthracenyl esters could be efficiently synthesized from 2-benzylbenzoic acids via a novel three-step tandem reaction containing intramolecular Friedel-Crafts acylation, enolization, and esterification. A mechanism for the tandem reaction is proposed. © Georg Thieme Verlag Stuttgart New York.
