Abstract:
Tb3+/Eu3+∶ZnGa2O4 glass ceramics were synthesized by sol-gel method. The influence of heat treatment temperature on the micro-structure of the glass ceramic, and the luminescence properties of samples doped with different rare-earth ions were studied. The results show that the precipitation of spinel ZnGa2O4 nano-crystals among the glassy matrix after the dry gel heat-treated at the temperatures in the range from 800 ℃ to 900 ℃. Unfortunately, the glass ceramic heat-treated at 1000 ℃ was opaque due to the crystallization of the glassy matrix with the precipitation of trigonal Zn2SiO4 and hexagonal SiO2. The energy transfer from the ZnGa2O4 nano-crystals to the doped Tb3+ and Eu3+ in the glass ceramic was proved by the photoluminescence excitation spectra. The green and the red emission from Tb3+ and Eu3+ respectively were observed in the Tb3+/Eu3+∶ZnGa2O4 glass ceramic heat-treated at 900 ℃, which combined with the blue emission from ZnGa2O4 nano-crystals to realize the while emission in the glass ceramic.
