Abstract:
In order to look for the effective way to enhance the mass transfer, constant reflux ratio batch distillation experiments in the rotating packed bed were made using ethanol-water binary system. The variation of average mass fraction and recovery were investigated by altering rotating speed n, reflux ratio R and mass fraction of ethanol wF. The results show that the average mass fraction and recovery of ethanol increase with increasing n, and exist the best rotating speed nopt. The average mass fraction and recovery of ethanol increase slowly with increasing R. The average mass fraction increase with increasing wF and the recovey of ethanol increase first but then decline increasing with wF. Therefore, batch distillation is suitable for processing the high mass fraction feed in totating packed bed and operating under small reflux ratio and low rotating speed.
