Abstract:
Owing to the fact that low cycle fatigue (LCF) of material is a process of energy dissipation and relates to inelastic response of material in the process of fatigue, area between the inelastic part of cyclic stressstrain curve and its tangential line at a slope of E (elastic modulus of material), which is similar to the inelastic part of complementary strain energy density in the figure of stress-strain curve of material, is used to describe the process of fatigue damage. A new approach to determine LCF life with the area was proposed and validated by LCF tests for the steel 30CrNiMo8 at temperature of 340°C and a high temperature superalloy at temperature of 900°C under push-pull loading. The results of LCF life prediction show that the life prediction capability of the method proposed in this paper is better than those of Manson-Coffin equation and three-parameter power function.
