Abstract:
The problem of linear free vibration of horizontal suspension cables with small sag is a classical one. Based on Irvine' s classical theory, a theoretically more accurate analytical solution of this proble. is obtained by considering the more precise catenary profile. This can be regarded as an extension of Irvine' s work to catenary ca-bles with small sag. The results of this study c an be treated as a supplement of existing work.
