Abstract:
The effects of film forming techniques on sol-gel derived electrochromic WO3 films were studied. The sol prepared by the peroxotungstic acid method was employed for the deposition of WO3 films by pulse electrophoretic deposition and dip coating techniques on ITO glass substrates. The morphological and structural characteristics, optical and electrochemical properties of the films were investigated. The results show that the WO3 films prepared by the two film forming techniques are consisted of amorphous phase, and the thicknesses of both films are about 252 nm. The range of transmission modulation for the WO3 film prepared by pulse electrophoretic depositing is up to 80% in the visible region, which is 25% higher than the dip coated films. The pulse electrophoresis deposited WO3 film exhibits higher electrochemical activity, faster response, and relatively lower reversibility compared with the dip coated WO3 film.
