Abstract:
Influence of homogenization on morphologies of the precipitated phases in Al-1Mn-1Mg alloy prepared by high-efficient melt-treatment was studied by means of SEM, TEM, EDAX and DTA. The results show that the phases precipitated on the grain boundary are mainly compound phase Al (Fe, Mn, Si, RE). These precipitates turn into spherical shape gradually with the increasing of temperature in the range of 400-600°C or the extension of holding time in the range of 6-24 h. The dispersity of precipitates with different components and different morphologies within the grains increases with increasing annealing temperature and holding time. The phases on gram boundary become coarsening while increasing temperature or elongating holding time continuously. An optimum microstructure of the alloy can be obtained by annealing at 450-500°C for 12-15 h.
