Abstract:
The Second Highway Bridge over Yellow River in Zhengzhou is located in the national highway trunk linking the north to the south from Beijing to Zhuhai. In this paper, both plane and space finite element models are developed to analyze lateral distribution coefficients of live load, behavior of cross beam, arch rib and tie beam, and spatial effect of the structure. The elastic buckling of the bridge is also investigated by the space finite element model. The analysis results shows that the lateral distribution coefficients of live load calculated by the principle of the lever distribution are almost equal to the result from the space FEM, so the principle of lever distribution can be used in structural design; tie beam is subject to considerable torsion moment; the suspender crossbeam' s structural behavior is similar to simple beam while end cross beam is influenced by tie beam and should be analyzed by space FEM; and the lateral brace and supporting frame of tie beam contribute to stability prominently.
