Abstract:
In order to analyze the effect of heating method on the orange peel effect, hot air heating system and carbon fiber electric pipe heating system were developed in the warm incremental forming process respectively. An octagonal pyramid was designed as the forming target and a series of forming experiments at different temperatures were conducted. The microstructures characterizations of the magnesium parts were also performed. The effects of forming temperature and heating method on the microstructure of magnesium parts were deeply discussed, and the cause of the orange peel was analyzed. The results show that the orange peel is strongly affected by the forming temperature and heating method. The surface quality of parts formed by hot air heating system is generally better than that of carbon fiber electric pipes system. © 2021, Central South University Press. All right reserved.
