Abstract:

In order to reduce the complexity of intra prediction for High Efficiency Video Coding(HEVC), this paper proposes an early termination algorithm for Coding Units (CUs) and a fast mode selection algorithm for Prediction Units (PUs) based on statistical analysis. The early termination algorithm is to calculate the distribution of rate-distortion cost under different quantization parameters (QPs), obtain the correlation between size and rate-distortion cost, and set the rate-distortion cost threshold of the coding unit to perform early termination division. The fast mode selection algorithm uses the distribution characteristics of the best mode and the correlation of the Hadamard transform cost between adjacent angle modes to filter the number of modes that enter the Rough Mode Decision(RMD) and the Detailed Mode Decision(DMD). Experimental results show that compared with HM16.7, the algorithm in this paper can reduce the coding time by about 44% under the premise of ensuring performance © 2022 IEEE.
