Abstract:

To broaden the application fields of phosphors, multicolor light-emitting phosphors are considered to be a future trend. In this study, multicolor light emission was successfully achieved in Bi3+-activated Lu3Sc2Ga3O12 (LSGO), which can emit a narrow-band blue light with a full width at half maximum (FWHM) of 42 nm or a broad-band cyan light. Significantly, the emitted light from LSGO: Bi3+ changed from cyan to blue light with an increase in the excitation wavelength. Moreover, differences in temperature-related photoluminescence properties between the blue and cyan light were detected, indicating the potential application of Bi3+-activated LSGO in temperature sensors. The origin of the two emission bands was examined in detail by analyzing the crystal and electronic structures of LSGO. The results indicate that two different luminescent centers exist in LSGO: Bi3+, which means the as-prepared sample could have broad applications in many fields.
