Abstract:
In this paper, a quasi-static cyclic test was performed on an integral abutment-steel H-pile specimen considering the interaction of the soil with the abutment and pile in order to evaluate its seismic response. The results in terms of failure mechanism, deformation, earth pressure distribution, hysteretic behavior, backbone curve, stiffness, damping ratio, and ductility are briefly discussed. The results indicated that the interaction of the backfill soil with the abutment and pile could significantly improve the overall cyclic response of the IAJB. In addition, the integral abutment-steel H-pile structure has good ductility and energy dissipation capability.
