Abstract:
To improve the bonding properties of cement-based adhesives, epoxy resin is added in this study. The effects of various mix parameters, including epoxy, PVA powder, HPMC, silica fume, and synthetic fibers, and water contents, on the mechanical performance of epoxy modified cement-based adhesives are investigated. Experimental results show when the content of epoxy exceeds 15% of the cement by weight, the bond strength improves by more than 90%. But excessive epoxy adversely reduces the compressive strength of cement-based adhesive. The addition of PVA powder and HPMC also enhances bond strength. Water binder ratio and silica fume mainly affect the compressive strength of the cement-based adhesive. The addition of synthetic fibers greatly improves the toughness and crack resistance of the material. This study provides a solid basis for the optimization of mix compositions of cement based adhesives in various civil engineering applications. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
