Abstract:
In this chapter, we described pornography use motivation and prevalence in Chinese men and women, and screening scales for PPU. More than 50% percent women reported use of porn. As for types of online sexual activities, the largest gender difference was observed in “found sexual partners online” and the smallest difference in “flirting and maintaining a relationship.” During the COVID-19 pandemic, people’s porn use motivations were stress reduction, selfexploration, and fantasy, but men had a stronger motivation to use porn than women. Although existing PPU screening scales weren’t originally developed in Chinese samples, several scales were confirmed valid for Chinese women. © 2023 selection and editorial matter, Fulvia Prever, Gretchen Blycker, and Laura Brandt; individual chapters, the contributors.
