Abstract:

The purpose of this study is to gain an in-depth understanding of the safety needs, psychological characteristics and functional experience of the elderly and combining the technology of digital intelligence, and through scientific methods, we aim to provide targeted guidance for designers to ensure that the products can be better adapted to the living environment of the elderly and individual differences and to improve the level of personalisation and intelligence of the rehabilitation process of the elderly. The methodology adopts the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) to systematically assess the importance of each factor in the design of intelligent rehabilitation products for the elderly, and by reasonably constructing a hierarchical framework, the design factors of intelligent rehabilitation products for the elderly are stratified, and the weights are assigned using the opinions of experts in the relevant fields. By comparing and analysing the relative importance of each factor, a comprehensive trade-off model is established to guide the priorities and directions of product design. At the same time, combined with in-depth user interviews and literature reading, the actual use context of the product and feedback from the elderly are taken into account in order to improve the accuracy and practicality of the model. This study derives the relative importance of each factor in the design of intelligent rehabilitation products for the elderly and forms a set of systematic design guidelines. The findings provide a series of useful insights and clear guidelines for designers, who need to focus on the elderly population's concerns about safety, and cut through the physiological and psychological perspectives. Through in-depth interaction with the elderly and analysis of indicator data, this study also identified some details that are easily overlooked in conventional design, and this group of people holds an optimistic attitude towards the combination of digital intelligence elements in products, providing new ideas and directions for future design and research. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.
