Abstract:
The power supply issue for electrical devices in harsh and dangerous environments is challenging. This letter proposes a power supply solution using drones as an energy carrier to charge such devices. The drone is wirelessly charged at the ground-side station and then flies to the target place to charge the devices wirelessly. To achieve a compact and lightweight structure, the helical coupler is designed without compensation components and ferrite on the drone side. Thus, a drone-side uncompensated bidirectional wireless charging system is formed. Compensation capacitors and inductors are employed on the ground side to achieve zero phase angle. The antioffset performance and the constant-voltage output characteristic of the system are investigated. The experimental results verified that the proposed approach can be a competitive solution for charging devices in inaccessible places. © 1982-2012 IEEE.
