An overview on the distributed internal model approach and its applications ESCI CSCD

Abstract :

The cooperative output regulation problem has been studied by two approaches: the distributed observer (DO) approach and the distributed internal model (DIM) approach, respectively. Each of these two approaches has its own merits and weaknesses. Recently, we presented an overview on the cooperative output regulation problem by the DO approach. This paper further surveys the cooperative output regulation problem by the DIM approach. We first summarize the constructions and the roles of two different versions of the internal models: the distributed p-copy internal model and the distributed canonical internal model. Then, we describe an integrated framework that combines the DO approach and the DIM approach. Extensions and variants of the DIM and their applications will also be highlighted.

Abstract :

This paper studies both synchronous and asynchronous consensus problems for linear multi-agent systems under switching topology. A novel distributed continuous-discrete observer is established by solely using the relative sampled output messages, which needs neither to store messages from neighboring agents nor estimate the information of itself and all neighbors. Based on the estimation provided by the distributed observer, a distributed output feedback control with digital form is synthesized, which allows each agent to update the value of its controller at the synchronous/asynchronous sampling instants. It is of interest to see that, for the class of chain-integrator multi-agent systems, the proposed control approach allows the sampling periods to be chosen freely and thus would be more practical in some situations from the perspective of energy saving. The theoretical results are illustrated by formation flying of spacecraft and synchronization of multiple double-integrators.

Abstract :

This article studies the sampled-data cooperative output regulation problem for linear multiagent systems. First, a novel adaptive distributed continuous-discrete observer is established to recover the leader's state, which, on one hand, only relies on the sampling output of the leader, and on the other hand, does not need to store the sampled message from neighbors. Second, by solely making use of the digital states of both the agent and the distributed observer, a certainty equivalence control law is synthesized featuring a time-varying feedforward gain. It is rigorously proven that, with this time-varying feedforward gain, the proposed control approach can achieve exponential convergence of the tracking errors given arbitrary time-varying leader's signal, and the upper bound for the sampling intervals is explicitly given. Third, for the class of chain-integrator multiagent systems, the proposed control approach does not need any restriction on the upper bound of the sampling intervals, and thus would be more practical in certain application scenarios from the perspective of energy saving. The performance of the proposed control approach is validated by the simulation results of inverter-based distributed generation systems.

非线性大系统或多自主体系统在理论与工程应用领域都受到了广泛的关注.其中,稳定性以及衍生的镇定控制问题是研究的关键.为了应对车辆跟随控制问题,本文针对一类下三角型不确定网络非线性系统,给出稳定网络系统满足的充分条件,并提出一种全局鲁棒镇定控制设计方法.通过解决车辆跟随系统的纵向控制问题,揭示本文的研究结果可用于输出调节问题等综合控制问题的求解.仿真验证本文结果的有效性.

Event-triggered tracking control for a class of nonholonomic systems in chained form SCIE CSCD

Abstract :

In this study, the event-triggered asymptotic tracking control problem is considered for a class of nonholonomic systems in chained form for the time-varying reference input. First, to eliminate the ripple phenomenon caused by the imprecise compensation of the time-varying reference input, a novel time-varying event-triggered piecewise continuous control law and a triggering mechanism with a time-varying triggering function are developed. Second, an explicit integral input-to-state stable Lyapunov function is constructed for the time-varying closed-loop system regarding the sampling error as the external input. The origin of the closed-loop system is shown to be uniformly globally asymptotically stable for any global exponential decaying threshold signals, which in turn rules out the Zeno behavior. Moreover, infinitely fast sampling can be avoided by appropriately tuning the exponential convergence rate of the threshold signal. A numerical simulation example is provided to illustrate the proposed control approach.

Abstract :

Control of large-scale and multi-agent nonlinear systems has gained rapid developments from theory to wide engineering applications, continuously promoting more and more challenging byproduct stabilization problems. The present study is motivated by a car-following system and focuses on developing a systematic design algorithm for stabilizing a networked system with dynamic uncertainties. Our study not only gives a stabilizing control result but also explores an interesting link between the output regulation and stabilization serving a longitudinal control for a string of automated cars moving in a lane. We also show some simulation results to illustrate the proposed results. © 2023 South China University of Technology. All rights reserved.

Abstract :

In this paper, we consider the cooperative robust output regulation problem for a class of nonlinear multi-agent systems over jointly connected switching networks. First, by attaching each subsystem with an input driven filter, we obtain an extended system. Second, by integrating the distributed observer approach and the distributed internal model approach, we convert the cooperative output regulation problem of the original system into a distributed robust stabilisation problem of an augmented error system which is also a multi-agent system. Finally, we solve the original problem by stabilising the augmented error system via a distributed output feedback control law.

Abstract :

The cooperative global robust output regulation problem for a class of nonlinear uncertain multi-agent systems with dynamic uncertainty has been approached by some distributed state feedback control law, however this method does not produce an explicit Lyapunov function for the closed-loop system. In this paper, we develop a Lyapunov's direct method to solving the global robust output regulation problem for the mentioned systems and produce the corresponding controller. Moreover, the Lyapunov function for the closed-loop system will be a superposition of those of individual subsystems. © 2023 Technical Committee on Control Theory, Chinese Association of Automation.
