Abstract :
A simple, novel, and gram-scalable fluorescent probe material (NIT) containing a 2,2-diphenyl-1,3-dithiolane-bridged bis-1,8-naphthalimide unit with excellent air environment stability has been reported. NIT can effectively detect Hg2+ according to the variation in the fluorescence characteristics of NIT with and without Hg2+. The selectivity, concentration titration, pH applicable range, and detection limit of NIT in 2-methyl tetrahydrofuran/water have been investigated. The results show NIT possesses high selectivity, a wide pH applicable range of 3-13, and sensitivity to detect Hg2+. NIT also indicates the potential application in real environmental water samples for detecting Hg2+.

Abstract :
Imide-functionalized polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) endow fascinating optoelectronic properties, rendering them suitable for many applications. Developing these new kinds of functional materials is interesting and challenging. Dinaphtho[1,2-a:1 ',2 '-h]anthracene (DNphA), a non-planar S-shaped double helical helicene within the PAH class, has received relatively little research. In this contribution, a series of solution-processable DNphA diimide derivative dyes (M1 similar to M5) were designed and synthesized. The density functional theory calculation, photophysical and electrochemical properties of the new fluorescent dyes have been investigated. Notably, M5 was used as a fluorescent developer for latent fingerprint visualization, where fingerprints on different substrates displayed clear yellow-green fluorescence. This research provides insights into the efficient design strategy of the imide functionalization of DNphA and the synthesis and application of DNphA diimidebased functional dyes.

Abstract :
High-temperature photothermal response functional materials are an important branch of advanced photothermal materials. However, pure organic high-temperature photothermal materials are currently relatively scarce, and their molecular design and synthesis are challenging. In this research, a highly efficient [2 + 2] cycloaddition-retroelectrocyclization reaction has been carried out between the precursor molecule containing N,N-diphenyl-4-(phenylethynyl)aniline and piperazine-2,5-dione units (TP) and the typical electron-deficient unit 2,3,5,6-tetrafluoro-7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane (4F-TCNQ), and a rigid and twisted high-temperature photothermal organic material (named TTP) has been successfully designed and synthesized. This material is easy to synthesize and solution-processable, has broad spectral absorption (320-1900 nm), and can be triggered for high-temperature (similar to 400 degrees C) photothermal response by a near-infrared region II (NIR-II) laser (1064 nm). It has also been successfully applied to laser ignition, the construction of high-temperature shape memory actuators, and photowelding of metals with a 1064 nm laser, demonstrating the attractive potential for high-temperature NIR-II photothermal applications.

Abstract :
High-mobility organic field-effect transistors (OFETs), particularly those based on donor-acceptor polymers, often exhibit nonideal transfer characteristics, limiting their practical applications. Doping these semiconductors with specifically designed organic molecular electron acceptors can effectively address these deficiencies. By employing isoindigo-based acceptors with appropriate electron-withdrawing groups as dopants in diketopyrrolopyrrole-thienothiophene-based OFETs, we achieve an outstanding transistor performance with ideal transfer characteristics. Comprehensive analyses using ultraviolet-visible absorption, X-ray diffraction, ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy, and electrical measurements demonstrate that p-dopants play crucial roles in enhancing electron transfer, reducing charge carrier traps, and lowering contact resistance, thereby eliminating the typical "double slope" and hysteresis in OFET transfer characteristics.

Abstract :
The palladium-catalyzed oxidative homocoupling reactions of aryl boronic acids using a solvent-free and ligand-free ball-milling method have been reported. These reactions allow simple, fast, and efficient synthesis of a series of biphenyl-derived organic fluorescent materials in modest and good yields without the use of ligands in air. The new organic fluorescent material N-[4-(4-{phenyl[4-(triphenylvinyl)phenyl]amino}phenyl)-phenyl]-N-[4-(triphenylvinyl)phenyl]aniline (B6) shows typical aggregation-induced emission features and reversible mechanical force responsive fluorescent properties.

Abstract :
Conjugated polymers with strong absorption in the second near-infrared (NIR-II) window have multiple applications. However, the development of new type of NIR-II conjugated polymers via facile and green methods remains challenging. Herein, this work reports a mild and convenient transition-metal-free method to synthesize near-infrared absorbing quinoidal conjugated polymers containing para-azaquinodimethane (AQM) moieties. The AQM quinoidal conjugated polymers with unique molecular structures and tunable optoelectronic properties can be synthesized by combining the Knoevenagel polycondensation of aromatic dialdehyde monomers with commercially available 1,4-diacetyl-2,5-piperazinedione and the following alkylation reaction. The resultant polymer PQ-DPP shows remarkable NIR-II absorption with a narrow band gap of about 1.08 eV. PQ-DPP nanoparticles exhibit high photothermal conversion efficiency of up to 48% under 1064 nm laser irradiation (1 W cm(-2)) endowing this polymer with potential in bio-related applications.

A new triphenylethylene-modified indolo[2,3-b]quinoxaline TPE-IQ has been synthesized by a mild Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reaction. The thermal, electrochemical, photophysical, aggregation, and acidofluorochromic and mechanofluorochromic properties were investigated. TPE-IQ shows typical solvatochromism and aggregation-induced emission enhancement features. TPE-IQ also exhibits interesting reversible acid and mechanical force-responsive properties. This work highlights the development of multi-stimuli responsive organic material containing indolo[2,3-b]quinoxaline moiety.

A pair of star-like conjugated isomers (Tetra-8-IQ and Tetra-9-IQ) with indolo[2,3-b]quinoxaline as the star arm and tetraphenylethylene as the star core have been designed and synthesized. A comparative study has been conducted on the structural characteristics, electronic energy levels, spectral absorption, aggregation-induced emission, acid-stimulus response, and fluorescent applications of the two isomers. The results show that Tetra-8-IQ has lower lowest unoccupied molecular orbital/highest occupied molecular orbital energy levels, more redshifted optical absorption, and stronger fluorescence emission than Tetra-9-IQ. The two isomers are novel organic fluorescent materials as they both possess aggregation-induced emission characteristics and reversible acidichromism features. Tetra-8-IQ and Tetra-9-IQ were successfully applied in filter paper test strips and PMMA-based blending film to achieve fluorescent switch signals. Based on these findings, the INHIBIT and IMPLICATION molecular logic gates were successfully established, where acid and base were adopted as the input stimuli.

Ball milling Knoevenagel condensation reactions of dialdehyde aromatic derivatives and methylene-activated derivatives have been conducted in air and solvent-free systems with ammonium acetate as the catalyst to obtain a series of nonfullerene small molecular acceptors. Organic solar cells based on the fully non-fused ring acceptor SMA-8 showed a power conversion efficiency of 10.02%.

Herein, we report a ball-milling metal-free polymerization to synthesize isoindigo-derived conjugated polymers in the presence of readily available tris(diethylamino)phosphine. The resulting polymers possess comparable molecular weights and similar optical and electronic properties relative to their counterparts prepared via the solvent method. This new solvent-free and metal-free polymerization method can be performed under ambient conditions.
