Grid Current Distortion Suppression Based on Harmonic Voltage Feedforward for Grid-Forming Inverters SCIE

Abstract :

A grid-forming converter (GFM) controls power output by adjusting the phase angle and amplitude of its output voltage, providing voltage and frequency support to the power system and effectively enhancing system stability. However, it has limitations in current control, influencing the current only indirectly through voltage regulation, which results in weaker control over current waveform quality. In the context of a large number of renewable energy generation units being connected to the grid, harmonics in the grid voltage can lead to excessively high harmonic content in the grid current, exceeding standard limits and causing oscillations. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a control strategy of harmonic voltage feedforward compensation to suppress grid current distortion. The proposed control strategy extracts harmonic voltages from the output port of the GFM converter through a harmonic extraction module, processes them via a feedforward factor, and introduces the resulting signals into the converter's control loop as feedforward compensation terms. This allows the converter's output voltage to compensate for the harmonic components in the grid, achieving the improvement of grid current and reducing the total harmonic distortion (THD) value. The effectiveness of the proposed control strategy is verified by simulation results.

Hybrid Physical-Data Driven Model for Denoising of Generator State Measurements SCIE

Abstract :

The measurement data of power systems are often mixed with a lot of noise due to the interference of the external environment. In order to eliminate the effect of noise, it is significant to denoise the noisy data to obtain the real state measurements. In order to deal with the problem of insufficient interpretability in existing data-driven denoising methods, a hybrid physical-data driven denoising model (PDDM) based on the stacked denoising autoencoder (SDAE) is proposed. First, the previous knowledge is extracted from the physical model of the generator. Physical constraints are designed based on the inherent relationships between rotor angle, angular frequency, and power. Second, based on SDAE deep-learning (DL) model, physical constraints are embedded into the loss function to guide the training of a neural network. The derivatives of denoised data are leveraged in anticipation of satisfying the differential-algebraic equations. The physical process is directly approximated by the neural network in this method, making the outputs satisfy the physical laws. The reliability and interpretability of the denoising results are improved. Meanwhile, the dependence on datasets is reduced by virtue of the hybrid physical-data driven mode. The robustness is still maintained. Finally, it is verified in the 39-bus New England system and a realistic regional power system. The real noisy data are also taken into account in testing to verify its extensibility. The test results show that the method proposed can achieve a satisfactory effect in both denoising accuracy and generalization capability.

Abstract :

There is a problem that the inertia of DC microgrid is low and it is easy for the voltage of a DC bus to be affected by power fluctuation in the network. Thus an adaptive virtual inertia control strategy based on improved model prediction for grid-connected converter of DC microgrid is proposed. First, adaptive analog virtual synchronous generator control is introduced into the voltage outer loop and, by combining the inertial parameters with the voltage change rate, flexible adjustment of the inertial parameters is realized. Secondly, model predictive control is applied in the current inner loop, along with an improved delay compensation algorithm, to achieve fast tracking of the desired current value and enhance the dynamic characteristics of the control system. Finally, a system model is established based on Matlab/Simulink for simulation. The results show that, compared with the traditional virtual inertia control strategy, the DC bus voltage fluctuation amplitude of the proposed control strategy is smaller and the dynamic performance is better. This can effectively improve the stability of the DC bus voltage and the inertia of the DC microgrid. © 2024 Power System Protection and Control Press. All rights reserved.

Abstract :

Fault isolation is an important technology to help guarantee that a DC system can be operated stably. A new fault isolation strategy is proposed to improve the traditional strategy which relies too much on a high-performance DC circuit breaker (DCCB). The new strategy makes use of the coordination between a flexible current limiting device (FCLD) and a DCCB. First, the cooperative mechanism between the FCLD and DCCB under permanent fault and transient fault is researched. Second, the arc transient characteristic of the interruption of the DCCB considering suppressed current from the FCLD is analyzed. Finally, a simulation is carried out on the Matlab/Simulink platform to verify the feasibility of the new cooperative strategy. The results show that FCLD can inhibit the breaking arc effectively; with this new fault isolation strategy, the DC system can finish ride through smoothly in the transient fault, while the DCCB can complete the no arc break in the permanent fault. The new strategy has reduced the breaking requirements for DCCB in terms of the DC system’s fault isolation, and improved the fault ride-through capability of the DC system. © 2024 Power System Protection and Control Press. Abstract :

Grid-forming inverters, which are represented by droop control and virtual synchronous generator control, have been widely studied and applied because of their excellent grid-supporting ability and smooth off-grid switching. When a grid-forming inverter is connected to a microgrid or utility grid, the control loops of active power and reactive power will be coupled because of the voltage phase difference, which will affect the power control performance. This paper first derives the small-signal linearized model of the system, based on which a frequency feedforward control and an amplitude feedforward control are proposed to decouple the active power and reactive power control loops, respectively. The proposed decoupling strategy directly modifies the reference values through feedforward with an easily implementable principle that is applicable to various control coordinate systems, control coordinate systems, and control structures. By comparing system models with and without the proposed decoupling strategy, its effectiveness can be theoretically proven. Time-domain simulations and hardware experiments are presented to further validate its effectiveness.

Abstract :

As a complex dynamically strongly coupled system, DC distribution system often suffers from voltage collapse due to system resonance. In order to suppress distribution network resonance and bus voltage fluctuation, this paper proposes a hybrid control algorithm to suppress DC distribution system resonance to further enhance DC system stability. In this paper, the output voltage of the line regulation converter (LRC) is the target of the study. A current prediction model is introduced in the inner loop of the converter control, which can enhance the dynamic responsiveness of the system and eliminate the PWM modulator and parameter tuning, achieve the unitization of the inner loop of the current. By constructing the inverse model of the controlled object, the outer voltage loop is unitized under the control of two-degree-of-freedom. The hybrid control enables the bus voltage to follow the reference voltage exactly, which suppresses resonance peaks in the voltage transfer function and reduces bus voltage fluctuations. Finally, the proposed hybrid control algorithm is simulated and verified in MATLAB/Simulink platform. The results show that the control strategy can effectively suppress the resonance and bus voltage fluctuation of the DC distribution system and enhance the dynamic characteristics and anti-interference capability of the distribution network.

Abstract :

Aiming at the problem that the bus voltage in a low-inertia DC microgrid is prone to be affected by internal power fluctuations, an adaptive virtual inertia control strategy for a grid-connected converter of a DC microgrid based on an improved model prediction is proposed. Firstly, the adaptive analog virtual synchronous generator (AVSG) is introduced into the voltage outer loop by combining the inertial parameters with the voltage change rate, and the flexible adjustment of the inertial parameters is realized. Secondly, the improved model predictive control is introduced into the current inner loop to realize the fast-tracking of the given current value and improve the dynamic characteristics of the control system. Finally, a system model is established based on Matlab/Simulink for simulation. The results show that compared with the traditional virtual inertia control strategy, the proposed control strategy has smaller bus voltage fluctuation amplitude and better dynamic performance; when a 10 kW load mutation occurs, the magnitude of bus voltage drop is reduced by 60%, and the voltage recovery time is shortened by 30%. The proposed control strategy can effectively improve the stability of DC bus voltage and the operation ability of the system under asymmetric conditions.
