Impact of Organizational Context on Construction Project-based Organizations' Learning from Incidents based on Structural Equation Modelling and System Dynamics SCIE

Abstract :

Current research paradigms examining factors influencing Learning from Incidents (LFI) primarily rely on static, unidirectional, and linear frameworks that fail to account for nonlinear interactions between causal elements and systemic dependencies, consequently perpetuating structural deficiencies in LFI implementation. Addressing this critical gap, our research develops an integrated SEM-SD analytical framework through a socio-psychological lens and Conservation of Resource (COR) theory, systematically mapping both exogenous and endogenous determinants alongside their synergistic co-evolution trajectories within construction project systems. Utilizing 154 valid questionnaires from Chinese construction organizations, the study employs dual validation approaches-SEM and SD to analyze multi-level relationships between factors. Key findings demonstrate that psychological safety exerts greater influence on the LFI systems in dynamic environments than in static conditions. Leader inclusiveness shows a significant positive impact on psychological safety alongside nonlinear progressive effects on LFI behaviors. Organizational support maintains direct positive correlations with both psychological safety and leader inclusiveness while dynamically enhancing relational identification and LFI outcomes through evolutionary system interactions. Incentive mechanisms operate as double-edged swords, necessitating context sensitive calibration to balance their effects. Crucially, positive organizational contexts significantly improve LFI performance, which subsequently strengthens contextual conditions through performance feedback, creating self-reinforcing improvement cycles. This methodological advancement combines empirical validation with dynamic feedback analysis, surpassing traditional static approaches and deepening theoretical understanding of behavioral mechanisms driving effective LFI implementation in construction contexts.

Abstract&Keyword Cite Version(1)

Abstract :

PurposeThe nature of public-private partnership (PPP) markets, industry competition, and organizational embeddedness (e.g. collaboration experience), significantly influence how private-sector organizations in PPP establish relational ties and create project networks during the PPP procurement phase. This necessitates a multi-level perspective to unveil the relationship mechanisms and behaviors of organizations in PPP at different levels. This study aims to analyze the industry, clustering, and local characteristics of organization relationships using a longitudinal dataset of PPP transportation projects sourced from the National PPP Integrated Information Platform (NPPPIIP).Design/methodology/approachThis study adopts a multi-level analytical approach, encompassing whole-network, clustering-network, and local-network levels, to explore the mechanisms of organizational relationships and behavioral patterns within collaboration networks among private-sector organizations.FindingsThe results indicate that (1) organizational relationships within PPP unfold spontaneously over time, driven intrinsically and collectively, devoid of prior planning, control, external direction, or imposed order at the industry level, with the evolution of four collaboration types elucidating the emergence of self-organizing networks; (2) super enterprises exhibit exceptional breadth, brokerage, and ego abilities, and relationship patterns are governed by the effects of geographic proximity and preferential attachment at the clustering level; and (3) local relationship patterns are characterized by embeddedness mechanisms, including relational and structural aspects.Originality/valueThe multi-level analysis framework enhances our understanding of organization interactions in the PPP procurement phase, breaking away from the traditional social network analysis (SNA) at both the network-centric and ego-centric levels. Overall, the insights are valuable for policymakers designing improved tendering processes and for PPP private-sector organizations seeking a comprehensive overview of competition and collaboration in the transportation infrastructure sector.

Environmental implications of improving global value chain participation via trade diversification: Offsetting the effects of resource rents SCIE
期刊论文 | 2025 , 379 | JOURNAL OF ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT
Abstract&Keyword Cite Version(2)

Abstract :

This study explores the moderating effect of trade diversification on the relationship between global value-chain participation and natural resource rents for 106 nations from 2005 to 2018. The study employs an extended system Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) model to address potential challenges related to endogeneity and serial correlation. The results demonstrate how natural resource rents inhibit global value-chain participation by multinational firms, deterring them from investing in resource-dependent economies and restricting their integration into global trade networks. Trade diversification serves an essential moderation role in this process; nations with more diverse trade arrangements are less vulnerable to resource rents' negative effect on global value-chain participation. Furthermore, this study unleashes the significance of employing ecologically sustainable methods to mitigate resource exploitation's detrimental environmental impacts and ensure a balanced economic development model. Diversifying trade links and export quality improvement efforts with diversifying trade can increase trade links, strengthen international value chains and facilitate adoption of new technologies and information encouraging participation in global value chains. Our findings underscore the significance of policy actions which promote trade diversification to better manage natural resources, leverage resource rents for long-term economic growth and build resilience against future economic shocks.

Abstract&Keyword Cite Version(2)

Abstract :

With growing concern toward sustainable urban regeneration (UR) and the inability of existing UR policy instrument frequency studies to distinguish the blurring content in policies, a systematic framework quantitatively analyzing the temporal evolution of the content of UR policies is necessary. This paper considers localized modes, incorporates methods from multidimensions of UR, beyond merely the frequency of policy instruments, and proposes the Supply-Environment-Demand-Mode-Method framework. Dynamic topic modeling was utilized to reveal the thematic evolution quantitatively based on 427 UR policy documents in Shanghai. The results reveal that: (1) the municipal governments concentrate on environment-side instruments, especially nonfinancial ones; (2) policies of demolition, conservation, and renovation overlap throughout history rather than separately distributed; (3) quantitative evidence is provided that ecology and culture are less prioritized in UR compared to other dimensions. This paper provides a data-support holistic view of UR evolution in Shanghai for urban planners and other practitioners; three channels to improve UR practice are also proposed. This research highlights more possibilities to study UR from perspectives of policy implementation, policy process, and cross-disciplinary arena in the future.

Does tax enforcement reduce corporate environmental investment? evidence from a quasi-natural experiment SCIE

Abstract&Keyword Cite Version(1)

Abstract :

The transition to a green, sustainable economy is largely reliant on corporate investment in the realm of environmental protection. Utilizing the adoption of the third phase of the Golden Tax Project (GTPIII) in China as a quasi-natural experiment, this paper examines how corporate environmental investment changes in response to greater tax enforcement. Our results reveal that tougher tax enforcement significantly lowers corporate environmental investment. Such an effect is stronger for firms faced by high financial constraints and those operating in non-heavy-polluting industries. Moreover, the mechanism analysis indicates that the higher tax burden induced by greater tax enforcement is the potential channel. Overall, this paper shows that stricter tax enforcement could potentially result in adverse spillover effects on corporate environmental investment, which warrants attention in tax collection practices.

Abstract&Keyword Cite

Abstract :

The critical role of high-quality urban development and scientific land use in leveraging big data for air quality enhancement is paramount. The application of machine learning for causal inferences in research related to big data development and air pollution presents considerable potential. This study employs a double machine learning model to explore the impact of big data development on the PM2.5 concentration in 277 prefecture-level cities across China. This analysis is grounded in the quasi-natural experiment named the National Big Data Comprehensive Pilot Zone. The findings reveal a significant inverse relationship between big data development and PM2.5 levels, with a correlation coefficient of -0.0149, a result consistently supported by various robustness checks. Further mechanism analyses elucidate that big data development markedly diminishes PM2.5 levels through the avenues of enhanced urban development and land use planning. The examination of heterogeneity underscores big data's suppressive effect on PM2.5 levels across central, eastern, and western regions, as well as in both resource-dependent and non-resource-dependent cities, albeit with varying degrees of significance. This study offers policy recommendations for the formulation and execution of big data policies, emphasizing the importance of acknowledging local variances and the structural nuances of urban economies.

Abstract&Keyword Cite Version(3)

Abstract :

The Effects and Mechanisms of the Rural Homestead System on the Imbalance of Rural Human-Land Relationships: Evidence from the Yangtze River Delta Urban Agglomeration in China SSCI
期刊论文 | 2024 , 13 (2) | LAND
Abstract&Keyword Cite Version(2)

Abstract :

The imbalance of rural human-land relationships has become a notable problem in China's urbanization process. The dual urban-rural system is widely regarded as the crucial factor contributing to this problem in China. Although the significance of institutional forces has been substantially recognized, the rural homestead system seems to be generally under-evaluated in this issue. Most of the previous literature focuses on the dual household registration system, while the effects and the detailed mechanisms of the rural homestead system on human-land relationships lack depth in research. The objective of this research is to help fill this gap in the literature on the complex effects and the detailed mechanisms of the rural homestead system on rural human-land relationships. In view of this, this paper establishes a conceptual framework on the basis of land function theory and public domain of property rights theory and proposes two mechanism hypotheses: one is the land attachment mechanism of farmers' rights and interests (LAM), the other is the land finance preference mechanism of local governments (LFPM). Then, this article examines them empirically using the panel model with the data of 41 cities from 2010 to 2021 in the Yangtze River Delta of China. The main conclusions are as follows: (1) LAM promotes the imbalance of rural human-land relationships due to the attachment of farmer's social security rights and property expectant interests to the rural homesteads; (2) LFPM drives the imbalance of rural human-land relationships, owing to both the preference of land transfer revenue and the exclusion of rural migrants' citizenship financial cost on local governments; (3) the moderating effects suggest that LFPM can strengthen the effect of LAM, and the spatial Durbin model results show that both LAM and LFPM have spatial spillover effects. It is hoped that the findings will provide a reference for deepening the rural homestead system reform.

Financial deepening does cause income growth of rural residents: Insights from the relationship between government and market in China SCIE

Abstract&Keyword Cite Version(1)

Abstract :

This paper examines the impacts of government-market relation (measured by the degree of marketization) on the link between financial deepening and income growth of rural residents. Using macro panel data covering a period from 2010 to 2021 across 31 provincial administrative regions in China, we create an interaction variable that captures the interplay between financial deepening and the degree of marketization. Employing a fixed effects model and a dynamic panel regression model, we derive three robust findings from the regression analysis: (1) the higher the degree of marketization, the stronger the promotion effect of financial deepening on the growth of rural residents' income, with a one-year lag effect; (2) the higher the degree of marketization, the stronger the promotion effect of financial deepening on the wage income of rural residents, with a one-year lag effect; (3) the higher marketization fails to create the promotion effects of financial deepening on the net business income and net property income of rural residents. These results suggest that financial deepening aimed at raising rural residents' incomes in provinces, where China's marketization has slowed down, stagnated, or retrogressed, will have difficulty reaching its goals, and that some of the financial and economic problems affecting the growth of rural residents' business and property incomes remain unresolved.
