Abstract :

Abstract :
gamma- aminopropyltriethoxy silane organic layered double hydroxides (LDHs) and SBS were combined into LDHs/SBS composite to improve anti-ageing performance of SBS modified bitumen (SMB). XPS and SEM showed that organic LDHs (OLDHs) was successfully grafted onto SBS, and OLDHs could be more evenly distributed in SBS, which was conducive to improve the anti-degradation capability of SBS. Compared with SBS and LDHs/SBS composite, the interaction between OLDHs/SBS composite and bitumen was stronger, resulting in the better stabilization of SBS and LDHs in bitumen. Furthermore, OLDHs/SBS composite could enhance the hightemperature property of SMB. SMB became hard and brittle during ageing, the physical and rheological properties were remarkably deteriorated. LDHs/SBS and OLDHs/SBS composite could alleviate the damage of ageing on the highand low-temperature performance of SMB and enhance the anti-ageing capacity, particularly OLDHs/SBS composite. Then, the improvement mechanism of OLDHs/SBS and LDHs/SBS composite on the anti- ageing capability of SMB was analyzed at microscopic scale. LDHs/SBS and OLDHs/SBS composite could hinder the infiltration of oxygen into bitumen and decrease the oxygen content, and simultaneously decelerate the oxygen diffusion rate in bitumen. The synergistic combination of these two functions conspicuously diminished the probability of oxygen colliding with bitumen or SBS, which relieved the ageing of bitumen and the degradation of SBS, and ultimately improved the anti-ageing capability of SMB. Furthermore, due to the better stability, the effectiveness of OLDHs/SBS composite was more notable than LDHs/SBS composite, OLDHs/SBS composite demonstrated superior improvement on the anti-ageing capability of SMB than LDHs/SBS composite.

Abstract :
This study investigates the post-fire axial compression behavior of concrete-filled stainless steel tube (CFSST) stub columns, aiming to inform strategies for strengthening and retrofitting fire-damaged CFSST structures. The paper reviews the mechanical properties and fire resistance of CFSST, presenting results from a series of fire and axial compression tests conducted on 69 circular CFSST stub columns. Key parameters included fire exposure conditions, stainless steel tube wall thickness, concrete strength, and cooling methods. The analysis includes the failure mode, load-deformation relationship, ultimate bearing capacity, initial compressive stiffness, and ductility of specimens post-fire. The primary post-fire axial compression failure mode of the specimens was characterized by localized buckling uniformly distributed along the vertical axis. For fire durations of 60 min or less, the ultimate bearing capacity of the specimens was largely restored after cooling, with a bearing capacity loss of less than 10 %. Specimens subjected to water cooling exhibited lower initial compressive stiffness and ultimate bearing capacity compared to those cooled by air. Lastly, a formula is proposed for predicting the ultimate bearing capacity of CFSST stub columns following exposure to ISO 834 standard fire conditions.

Abstract :
The behavior of high-strength bolted connection (HSBC) with over-preload tightening torque under double shear test was presented in the investigation. A total of 108 HSBC specimens were used for double shear test. The two kinds of high-strength bolt grades of 8.8 s and 10.9 s were set with three kinds of bolt shank diameters of 16, 18 and 20 mm which were used in this study. There were 96 HSBC specimens with different over-preload tightening torque and 12 HSBC specimens with standard torque as the control group. The over-preload tightening torque, high-strength bolt grade, bolt shank diameter, and steel plate surface treatment were set as the main variables for the double shear test in the investigation. This study analyzed the influences of main variables on the failure mode, strain distribution, anti-sliding bearing capacity, ultimate capacity, shear stiffness, and ductility of HSBC. The test results indicated that anti-sliding bearing capacity of HSBC was increased greatly with the increase of preload tightening torque. However, effects of over-preload tightening torque on the ultimate capacity were not obvious. In addition, this investigation provided the calculated formula to calculate the ultimate capacity of HSBC with over-preload tightening torque under the double test. It could be found that the calculated value of the ultimate capacity was in good agreement with the test value. Furthermore, the finite element model was provided to simulate and analyze the shear resistance behavior of HSBC with over-preload tightening torque.

Abstract :
Steel frame structures repaired after fire exposure exhibit markedly different collapse behavior, compared to their performance under ambient conditions, when subjected to extreme loads. This study investigates the progressive collapse resistance of steel frame structures with reduced beam section (RBS) connections in post-fire conditions, using ten beam-column substructures: one tested at room temperature and nine exposed to various fire conditions. Results show that fire exposure shifts the failure from the RBS to the beam-column connection, significantly impairing the RBS's ability to relocate the plastic hinge, especially at higher fire temperatures. Fire temperature significantly affects collapse resistance, especially above 600 degrees C, whereas fire duration has a comparatively smaller influence on deformation capacity, particularly at 800 degrees C. Elevated temperatures weaken tensile catenary action (TCA), with substructures exposed to 800 degrees C for 90 min failing to transition to the TCAdominated stage. Numerical simulations show that for substructures exposed to 400 degrees C and 600 degrees C, collapse resistance increases with greater flange reduction length, while the relationship between collapse resistance and starting reduction distance follows a rise-and-fall pattern. At 800 degrees C, collapse resistance remains relatively consistent across different starting reduction distances, but increasing the reduction length initially enhances and then reduces resistance. Increasing the reduction depth to 30 mm significantly reduces both the flexural and tensile capacities of the RBS region, shifting the failure mode from the beam-column connection to the RBS region.

Abstract :
The assessment of the strength of welded Circular Hollow Section (CHS) steel tubular joints is of paramount importance in the safe design of engineered structures. In order to address this core factor, this paper employs Gaussian Process Regression (GPR), a probabilistic machine learning method based on a collected database, with the objective of modelling and predicting the strength of three types of welded CHS steel tubular joints and effectively quantifying their associated uncertainties. This study presents two strength prediction models for welded CHS steel tubular joints: a Single-Output Gaussian Process Regression (SOGPR) model and a Multi-task Gaussian Process Regression (MTGPR) model. The models are evaluated and compared with existing empirical approaches, design guides, non-probabilistic machine learning methods, and Bayesian Linear Regression. The objective is to demonstrate the accuracy and high efficiency of the predictions made by these models. Furthermore, the MTGPR model employs the shared information between the three types of joints to enhance the prediction performance. Subsequently, the SHapley Additive exPlanations method was employed to examine the interpretability of the GPR model in relation to the strength uncertainty of welded CHS steel tubular joints. Ultimately, the uncertainty in the strength of the three welded CHS steel tubular joints is quantified based on the proposed prediction methodology in conjunction with Monte Carlo Simulation through the utilisation of Sobol sensitivity analysis and Morris sensitivity analysis. The findings indicate that the chord diameter D and chord length L of welded CHS steel tubular joints have the greatest impact on the uncertainty of strength. The aforementioned study facilitates the optimisation of the design of actual engineering structures, the management of the range of strength uncertainty and the enhancement of the safety and reliability of engineering structures.

Abstract :
High-strength reinforcement is characterized with excellent strength and ductility, and when combined with ultra-high-performance fiber-reinforced concrete (UHPFRC), it leverages the strengths of both materials. To study the dynamic response of high-strength reinforced UHPFRC(HSR-UHPFRC) beams under impact loading, this work integrates drop-weight impact testing with ABAQUS numerical simulations to examine the effects of longitudinal reinforcement ratio, stirrup ratio, impact mass, impact velocity and shear span-to-depth ratio. The research findings indicate that under impact loading, HSR-UHPFRC beams primarily experience flexural failure. When the reinforcement ratio increases from 1. 15% to 1. 53%, the energy absorption efficiency drops by about 10%. Use of stirrups can effectively reduce the deflection of the beam without altering its failure mode. Under the equivalent impact energy, the impact mass has a more pronounced effect on the damage of beam. Elastoplastic rotation damage assessments suggest that increasing the longitudinal reinforcement ratio and reducing the shear span-to-depth ratio can effectively mitigate the damage of beam under impact loading. When the longitudinal reinforcement ratio is less than 1. 15%, a design without stirrups can be adopted. When it exceeds 1. 5%, however, it is recommended that stirrups shall be provided to prevent brittle failure of beam under impact loading. © 2025 Chinese Society of Civil Engineering. Abstract :
3-mercaptopropyltriethoxysilane (KH580) surface organic layered double hydroxides (LDHs) was synthesized to simultaneously bolster the anti-ageing property of SBS copolymer modified bitumen (SMB). The X-ray diffraction and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy proved that the KH580 was successfully grafted on the surface of LDHs (KH-LDHs). After KH580 surface organic modification, the aggregation and hydrophilicity of LDHs were significantly restrained, and the UV absorbing capacity was concurrently enhanced. Compared with LDHs, KHLDHs exhibited superior compatibility within SMB and could improve the high-temperature performance and elastic behavior of SMB much better. After ageing, SMB became stiff and crisp, the rheological properties worsened, and the number of oxygen-containing groups (C--O and S--O) in SMB experienced a considerable rise. Simultaneously, SBS copolymer also degraded during the ageing process, further deteriorating the performance of SMB. LDHs was able to inhibit the ageing repercussions on the rheological properties, chemical structure and SBS copolymer, thus bolstering both the anti-ageing property of SMB and the degradation resistance of SBS copolymer. Furthermore, the role of LDHs would be dramatically strengthened by KH580 surface organic modification.

Abstract :
This research investigated the axial compression performance of recycled aggregate concrete-filled circular steel tubular columns (CRACFST). The axial compression test was conducted with 20 test specimens of CRACFST. The effects of core concrete strength, aggregate particle size and recycled aggregate replacement rate on axial compression performance of the test specimen were studied in this research. This investigation analyzed the failure mode, ultimate axial compression bearing capacity, compression toughness, initial stiffness and ductility of CRACFST under axial compression tests. The ultimate axial compression bearing capacity was increased with the increase of core concrete strength and decreased with the increase of recycled aggregate replacement rate. In addition, the ultimate axial compression bearing capacity of CRACFST test specimen under axial compression was a little decreased with aggregate particle size increased. According to axial compression test results, nominal compression strength of core concrete of 30 MPa and a recycled aggregate replacement rate of not over 50 % were suggested for CRACFST. The results indicated that it is feasible to replace ordinary aggregate concrete with recycled aggregate concrete. Additionally, the numerical simulation method was used to analyze axial compression behavior of CRACFST specimen. The effects of steel tube thickness and column height on axial behavior of CRACFST were conducted according to the numerical mode. According to test and numerical simulation results, a calculation formula for ultimate axial compression bearing capacity of CRACFST was provided in this investigation. A good agreement with the test and numerical simulation results was achieved.

Abstract :
Damage modes of concrete-filled double-tube (CFDT) columns under lateral impact were studied by drop impact tests and numerical simulations. Using the moment-rotation relationship as the assessment indicator, the velocity-mass and mass-energy damage evaluation models for CFDT columns were established. The influences of the parameters including the impact position, external steel tube strength, diameter-thickness ratio of internal steel tube and axial compression ratio on the damage evaluation models were discussed. The results show that under constant impact energy, the damage degree of the CFDT columns increases remarkably as the ratio of impact mass to impact velocity increases. The critical impact energies at different damage degrees are significantly different. As the impact mass remains constant, the critical impact energy increases with the increase of the internal steel tube diameter-thickness ratio, external steel tube strength and distance from free-end to impact point, while it increases first and then reduces with increasing of the axial compression ratio. The influences of these parameters on critical impact mass decrease with the increase of impact velocity. Among them, the external steel tube strength has the greatest influence on the damage evaluation model, the axial compression ratio and the impact position take the second place, and the influence of the internal steel tube diameter-thickness ratio is the least. © 2025 Chinese Vibration Engineering Society.
