Abstract:

An Er3+:(SrLa2)-La-3(BO3)(4) crystal with dimensions of phi 20 x 30 mm(3) was grown by the Czochralshi method and the growth and spectral properties were studied. From the Judd-Ofelt theory, the oscillator intensity parameters were calculated to be Omega(2)=14.26 x 10(-20) cm(2), Omega(4)=4.56 x 10(-20) cm(2), Omega(6)=3.46 x 10(-20) cm(2). The emission cross section of the Er3+:Sr3La2(BO3)(4) crystal was estimated to be 14.21 x 10(-21) cm(2) at 1532 nm. The result shows that the Er3+:Sr3La2(BO3)(4) crystal may be regarded as a promising gain medium for the 1.55 mu m laser.
