Abstract:
This study investigated the adsorption of Ni(II) from an aqueous solutions by a novel sulfonic starch adsorbent, which was prepared by graft copolymerization of crosslinked corn starch with acrylamide followed by sulfomethylation of the graft copolymer with formaldehyde and sodium bisulfate. Static experiments were conducted as function of pH, initial amino acid concentration, adsorption time and temperature. The equilibrium adsorption data of the Ni(II) ion on adsorbent were analyzed by Langmuir and Freundlich models. Thermodynamics studies indicated that the adsorption process was exothermal and was controlled by chemical adsorption.
