Abstract:
A polypyrrole derivative, poly (3-valeroylpyrrole) (PVPy) with acyl substituents was synthesised. The chemical structure and properties of the polymer were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), 1H-nuclear magnetic resonance (1H-NMR), ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis), thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) and photoluminescence spectroscopy (PL). TGA results indicate that PVPy is decomposed at 222°C. The conductivities of PVPy doped with iodine and concentrated sulfuric acid (98%) are 0.52 S/cm and 0.28 S/cm, respectively. UV-Vis reveals the energy band gap of PVPy is 2.16 eV. The PL of PVPy was also investigated, the result shows that PVPy is a good photoluminescence material and strong blue fluorescence can be observed when the excitation wavelength is 346 nm.
