Abstract:
Using hexadecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) and TX-100 mixed surfactants as a template, ordered Ce-MCM-48 molecular sieves with up to 12% cerium (mole fraction) content were synthesized by adding a cerium source in the process of hydrothermal crystallization. The synthesized material was characterized by X-ray diffraction, N2 adsorption-desorption isotherm, transmission electron microscope and ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy. The results show that the products with high cerium content still retain their cubic mesopore structure and high Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area (1185-331 m2/g). Cerium is bound into the framework position and/or into the walls of MCM-48 by Ce4+.
