Abstract:
Two experimental methods were presented to generate a series of triangular mesh models with specific size and shape triangles, and a quantitative assessment parameter was put forward to estimate triangle shape quality. Based on comparison of discrete curvature errors of mesh models, eventually quantitative relationship between triangle quality and discrete curvature was proclaimed. Results show that triangle shape exerts far more influence on discrete curvature than triangle size does, and if the shape is well controlled and the size is less than half of local mean curvature radius, the discrete curvature error will be under 0.5%. Methods proposed are proved to be effective by examples.
