Abstract:
In order to promote the sustainable development of enterprises, researchers pay more and more attention to employees' innovative behaviors. Current studies have different opinions on the relationship between future work self-salience and employees' innovative behaviors. This study aims to explore further the correlation mechanism between future work self-salience and employees' innovative behaviors. Based on the regulatory focus theory, this research proposes a potential mechanism: learning goal orientation, which promotes employees to innovate and thrive at work as moderators. A time-lagged survey of 219 employees was conducted. Hypotheses were examined by the method of multiple regression analysis. Results indicated that future work self-salience has a positive relationship with employees' innovative behaviors via learning goal orientation. At the same time, employees with a high level of thriving at work would augment the positive association. Finally, the theoretical contributions of the study were discussed, and the management's suggestions to enterprises were put forward, especially on how future work self-salience can be used to guide employees' behavior toward innovation in the workplace. © 2021 ACM.
