Abstract:
Sulfhydryl cellulose(Cell- SH) was prepared by sodium periodate oxidation from α- cellulose. The morphology and structure of Cell- SH were characterized by scanning electron microscopy- energy dispersive spectrometer(SEM-EDS), Fourier-transformed infrared spectrum(FT-IR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS). The efficiency, influencing factors and mechanism on the removal of malachite green (MG) - hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) compound pollution were systematically investigated. The experimental results show that after oxidation modification, the sulfhydryl cellulose adsorbent contains -SH functional groups and has good performance in the removal of MG-Cr (VI) compound pollution, and the adsorption capacity of MG and Cr(VI) can reach 58.9 mg/g and 28.7 mg/g, respectively. The complexes of MG and Cr(VI) are also observed on the adsorbent surface, and the adsorption process involves hydrogen bonding, electrostatic gravitational force, reduction and chelation. Cell-SH has excellent performance in the removal of MG-Cr(VI) compound pollution in aqueous solution and has great potential for application. © 2023 Chengdu University of Science and Technology.
