Abstract:
This paper presents the results of tests conducted on ten ultra-high-strength concrete-filled steel tube (CuFShT) short columns subjected to different eccentric loads. The study investigated failure modes, load-deflection curves, and load-strain curves of these short columns. The findings reveal that the bearing capacity decreases while ductility significantly improves with increasing eccentricity. Before reaching its eccentric bearing capacity, the CuFShT short column satisfies the flat section assumption. As section plasticity develops, the hoop effect of the high-strength steel tube on ultra-high-strength concrete at the edge of the compression zone comes into play. Through a comparison between the tested bearing capacity and the predicted values from the Chinese code, a modified reduction coefficient is proposed.
